LoyaltyLobby reader forwarded me an email that he had recently received from the audit department of US Airways Dividend Miles. I recently wrote about issues that some were having with their IHG Rewards Club accounts (read more here).
US Airways Dividend Miles had consolidated accounts and then closed them.
I always strongly advise against opening multiple accounts for the same person. It is against the program rules and your account may be adversely affected at some point. It is ok for every member of the household to have their own account, however.
If you need an additional account or two to buy miles, why wouldn’t you open those for your parents/siblings or very close friends?
US Airways has often had very attractive promotions for buying/sharing/gifting miles that has been very good way to get access for Star Alliance awards in business/first class.
Conclusion
You should not get carried away with having duplicate accounts against the program rules. The correct way is to have accounts open for your family members that is ok.
Programs don’t usually start doing audits unless there are some other issues such as complaints or maybe an indication that award might have been sold/traded.
